Applications of rhenium
Rhenium is not yet widely used in technology. Studies are under way in
this regard. Of most interest is the use of rhenium in electrical
engineering. High melting point, high resistance and gas resistance
enable Rhenium to be used in the manufacture of incandescent filament in
electric and cathode lamps. It is recommended to cover tungsten wire
with rhenium to extend its service life.
Interested in the application of rhenium in thermal batteries.
Pt-re /Pt, PT-RE /Pd, PT-PE /Rh, Rh-RE /Rh, IR-RE /IR were studied.
The thermoelectric EMF of a thermocouple is 3-4 times that of a precious
metal circuit. They apply to 1900 degrees.
A rhenium protective layer is recommended. Electrolytic copper, brass,
nickel plating methods have been developed.
