The price of zinc alloy and aluminum alloy is similar. If the structure
and die-casting process allow, of course, it is more cost-effective to
use aluminum alloy. The specific gravity of zinc alloy is about 2.5
times that of aluminum alloy, and the price is comparable, so the
material cost of zinc alloy is two or three times more expensive than
aluminum alloy. Nowadays, many companies want to replace zinc alloy with
aluminum alloy in order to save cost, but some of them cannot be
replaced because the strength, hardness and molding performance of zinc
alloy are much better than aluminum alloy. If you want to polish the
surface of your products and require high quality appearance, you have
to use zinc alloy. Aluminum alloy material is difficult to achieve high
surface quality requirements, because aluminum alloy die-casting
performance is poor, in the product surface easy to product a lot of
pores, after plating out the surface quality is very poor.
Zinc alloy die-casting performance is better, the advantages are also
more, zinc alloy melting point is low, the solidification temperature
range is small, easy to fill the molding, shrinkage tendency is small,
can die-cast complex shape, thin-walled precision parts, casting surface
is smooth, high dimensional accuracy; casting temperature is low, mold
life is long, not easy to stick mold, not corrosive mold. And the room
temperature mechanical properties of zinc alloy are also high,
especially the pressure resistance and wear resistance are very good,
zinc alloy die casting can well accept a variety of surface treatment,
such as electroplating, spraying, painting, etc..
The most serious disadvantage of zinc alloy is the aging phenomenon,
volume up, strength reduction, too much time will lead to deformation of
die castings or even shattering, which is the main reason why the use of
zinc alloy is limited. Aluminum alloy is much better than zinc alloy in
terms of performance, with good die-casting performance, electrical and
thermal conductivity, cutting performance is also good. The
disadvantages are also obvious: the alloys of the aluminum-silicon
series tend to stick to the mold, are corrosive to the metal crucible,
have a large volume shrinkage, and are prone to shrinkage. At the same
time, because they have different effects on the mold, so generally
speaking, the price of the molds used for zinc alloy and aluminum alloy
die-casting will be different, zinc alloy die-casting is not easy to
stick to the mold, does not corrode the mold, so the price of the molds
used for zinc alloy die-casting will be cheaper, while aluminum alloy
die-casting is easy to stick to the mold, corrosive to the metal
crucible and other reasons, the price of the molds needed will be
higher.
